This project involved the complete renovation of a Federation home in Sydney’s Inner West. Having lived in the house for nearly 20 years, the clients brought a clear understanding of how they wanted to evolve the home — prioritising light, flow, and a more intuitive connection between spaces.
The design balances the character of the original architecture with a softer, more contemporary sensibility. A restrained palette of timber, sage, white and muted clay creates a calm foundation, layered with moments of colour to bring warmth and personality.
Joinery became a key design language throughout the home. A mix of profiles — fine shaker, vertical groove and subtle curves — adds depth without overwhelming the spaces, while larger-scale elements such as the kitchen island and dropped ceiling above, bathroom vanities and selected furniture pieces anchor each room with a sense of permanence.
Materials were chosen for both texture and tone. Fluted glass in the sliding cavity doors and dry bar introduces a gentle diffusion of light, echoed by full-width sheer curtains in the rear living space. In the master ensuite, sage carries through into a marble mosaic-lined shower, naturally lit from above by a skylight — creating a quiet, considered moment within the home.
Across all five bedrooms, custom joinery provides both function and a sense of retreat. Built-in desk areas for the teenage children support study and independence, while maintaining a cohesive design language throughout. These more private spaces are balanced by the generous, open-plan living area on the ground floor — designed to bring the family together.
